There is also a buzz going around that the title of Thala 55 will be revealed next week. The film stars Thala, Anushka Shetty, Trisha and Arun Vijay.

SRM BDS Students Die in Car Accident

Two BDS students of SRM University at Kattankulathur were killed and seven others including six students injured as the car they were travelling met with an accident near here on Thursday.

According to police, a group of third year BDS students of SRM University, Kattangulathur in Chennai visited Pattukkottai on Wednesday to attend the funeral of their classmate’s mother Sugashree and later proceeded towards Tiruchy to board a train from there to Chennai.

As the car was moving between Pudukkudi and Navalur on Thanjavur -Tiruchy NH during the early hours of Thursday, the driver M Akthar of Tiruchy lost control. The vehicle overturned and strayed away from the highway into the nearby ground.

S Mohammed Niyas (21) of Quaide-milleth Nagar, Thennur in Tiruchy, N Dhivya Bharathi (21) of Monisha Nagar in Ayyar Bunglow area of Madurai were killed on the spot.

Other students S Priya Darshini Indira (21) of Tiruchy, Y Shailaja Rao (20) of Mumbai, S Sathyapriya (20) of Madurai, R Suha Janani (21) of Salem, V Akshaya Keerthi (21) of Tiruchengodu, M Tina Christiane (20) of Tiruchy and the driver Akthar of Tiruchy were injured and rushed to the Appollo hospital in Tiruchy.

Based on a complaint by a student, Bahath Ahamed (21) of Madukkur, who sustained minor injuries, police registered a case. Further investigations are on.

Sensex surges 215 points on sustained capital inflows, healthy Q1 earnings

Mumbai, July 22:

The Sensex and the Nifty surged nearly 0.8 per cent due to sustained foreign capital inflows and encouraging first quarter earnings posted by blue-chip companies coupled with a firm trend in other Asian markets.

According to an India Infoline Research report: "The market is managing to stay afloat even though build-up on the long side remains elusive. Either traders are looking to short the market at higher levels or they don’t expect the market to breach previous highs immediately.''

Brokers said sustained foreign capital inflows and persistent buying by retail investors, driven by encouraging first quarter earnings posted by blue-chip companies so far and positive economic factors, including progress in monsoon, bolstered the trading sentiment.

Besides, a firm trend in other Asian markets following signs of easing geopolitical tensions in Ukraine boosted the investor sentiment, they said.

At 11.25 a.m., the 30-share BSE index Sensex surged 215.30 points to trade at 25,930.47 and the 50-share NSE index Nifty jumped 59.80 points to trade at 7,744.

All BSE sectoral indices were trading significantly in the green. Among them, oil & gas, metal, realty and consumer durables gained the most by 1.63 per cent, 1.42 per cent, 1.22 per cent and 0.92 per cent, respectively.

Bharti Airtel, RIL, Hindalco, Coal India and SSLT were the major Sensex gainers, while HUL was the only loser.

Asian stocks rose, with gains in Tokyo and Hong Kong propelling the regional index towards a six-year high.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index added 0.6 percent to 147.7 by 12:08 p.m. in Tokyo, heading for the highest close since June 2008. Japan's Nikkei 225 jumped 149 points or 0.98 per cent to 15,364 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng surged 320.85 points or 1.37 per cent to 23,707.99.

11:23 am: Israeli strikes kill 7
A series of Israeli air strikes early Tuesday killed seven people in Gaza, including five members of the same family, emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said.
The deaths hike the total Palestinian toll to 583 since the Israeli military launched Operation Protective Edge on July 8 in a bid to stamp out rocket fire from Gaza.
Qudra said a strike on Deir el-Balah in central Gaza killed five family members, four of them women.
Another person was killed in a strike in nearby Nusseirat, and one more died in the southern city of Khan Yunis.

Zee News reported that Israeli shelling killed at least 5 and injured dozens at a Gaza hospital as Operation Protective Edge's 14 day came to a close, with no end to the violence in sight.
The report says that Israel was targetting a cache of anti-tank missiles in the "immediate vicinity" of a hospital.
10:36 am: Two Israeli soldiers killed in Gaza: army
Two Israeli soldiers were killed in combat in the Gaza Strip, the army said Tuesday, raising the number of troops killed in the 15-day conflict with Hamas to 27.
"Yesterday, Monday, two IDF (Israel Defence Forces) soldiers were killed during battles of Operation Protective Edge," a statement from the army read.
The army said three other soldiers were seriously wounded over the course of the night.
US condemns attack on Egyptian soldiers
The United States on Monday condemned a weekend attack on an Egyptian border checkpoint which left 21 soldiers dead, and vowed to keep up support for Egypt's security.
"We extend our condolences to the families of the victims, and hope for the quick and full recovery of the wounded," deputy State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said in a statement on the attack, which took place near Egypt's desert frontier with restive Libya.
"A prosperous and dynamic Egypt requires an environment of security and stability, and the United States continues to support the Egyptian government's efforts to counter the threat of terrorism in Egypt as part of our commitment to the strategic partnership between our two countries."
10:27 am: Kerry promises $47 million in humanitarian aid to Gaza
The United States will provide $47 million (35 million euros) in humanitarian aid to help Palestinians hit by Israel's campaign in the Gaza Strip, Secretary of State John Kerry pledged Monday.
"We are deeply concerned about the consequences of Israel's appropriate and legitimate effort to defend itself," Kerry said in Cairo as he met UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
"No country can stand by while rockets are attacking it, and tunnels are dug in order to come into your country and assault your people," Kerry told reporters.
"But always, in any conflict, there is concern about civilians -- about children, women, communities that are caught in it," Kerry said.
